History
Founded in 1844, the enterprise “Joel Miller and Son” initially manufactured candle holders, lamp screws, and candle springs but soon turned to producing copper base alloys to support the
manufacturing end of the lighting industry. In 1924, the Tremaine family acquired the company and changed the mill division of the company, now known as “The Miller Company,” to a non-captive mill, supplying specialty copper strip to mostly United States manufacturers.
Miller, as the United States leader in Phosphor Bronze strip production, came to realize that the economic challenges
associated with the increasing trend toward globalization could be best met by joining
a competitive international group. In the summer of 2000, The Miller Company became a part of the Metall division of Diehl Corporation,
which is headquartered in Nurnberg, Germany. The Diehl Metall Division is one of the leading international suppliers of brass rods and tubes, hot forgings, strip and wire from copper alloy.
Diehl employees a staff of 2,500 at different locations throughout the world including Rothenbach and Hemer, Germany, Sao Paulo, South America, Shenzen, China and Villers St.-Paul, France.
